Free-to-Play/Silver players start with 72 inventory slots and do not gain more for free via game progression. Gold and lifetime subscribers begin with 72 as well, and then gain 6 inventory slots at levels 10, 20, 30 and 40, and then 12 inventory slots upon reaching level 50 for a total base of 108 slots. An additional 12 inventory slots (character unlock) can be purchased from the Zen Store for 400 , up to nine (9) times per character (for an additional 108), or may be awarded from various promotions. Should a character at or near the limit receive a promotional bundle that would put them over the limit of Inventory slots, an account-bound [Promo - Additional Inventory Slots] will be placed in their inventory instead for transfer to another character via the account bank.
Crew[edit edit source]
The crew button in your personal inventory opens your starships status window allowing you to quickly equip/unequip items from your character, bridge officers, and ship. This button does exactly the same as pressing the U key on your keyboard.
Replicator[edit edit source]

The replicator button at the bottom right of the inventory can be used to buy and sell items whilst aboard your ship. Clicking it opens a Buy/Sell window. Players can sell unwanted items at the replicator and will receive 40% of the items base value.
Overflow Bag[edit edit source]
If an object is being automatically rewarded and there are no inventory slots, an inventory bag will appear where you can claim that item. You cannot choose which items go into the bag and once it is clear, it will not be visible.
Also if the bag contains more items than your inventory can hold, you will not be able to retrieve items from the bag until you have the required available slots free.

Once you have 50 items in your overflow bag, you will be restricted from using the Admiralty System, Duty officer system, Research and Development system, and will be unable to turn in missions, queue for Task Force Operations, withdraw items from your bank, or purchase items from stores or the exchange. At 100 items, you will be unable to accept new missions or post items on the exchange. At 200 items, the overflow bag is full and you will be unable to receive new items by any means.

At launch, when Star Trek Online required a subscription, the number of starting inventory slots was originally 42, and increased by 6 at levels 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 until the character had 72 inventory slots, and up to 36 additional slots could be purchased for a maximum of 108 slots.

With the launch of free-to-play (f2p) in 2012, f2p players started with 42 slots that did not increase with level, and could purchase up to 36 more for a total of 78.
In 2014, the base inventory was increased by 18 for all characters new and old, meaning f2p players would have 60 slots while gold/lifetime players would begin with 60 and gain 6 at levels 10, 20, 30, 40, 45 and 50 for a total of 96 slots. This patch also doubled the amount of extra inventory a character could obtain—from 36 to 72—meaning a f2p player could have a maximum of 132, while gold/lifetime players could have a maximum of 168.
In 2015, the maximum extra inventory a character could obtain was again raised by 36, meaning f2p players could reach a maximum of 168, while gold/lifetime players could reach a maximum of 204; the patchnotes erroneously state 198.
At some point the inventory increase for gold/lifetime characters was changed from receiving 6 at levels 45 and 50 to simply receiving 12 at level 50.
in 2016, the base inventory was increased by 12 more slots, leading to the current situation described above.
